Lighthouses hold a special place in maritime history\, warning mariners of dangers and helping guide vessels safely in and out of harbours.   Originally installed in 1880\, South Solitary Island Lighthouse Optic (SSILO) guided ships safely through the night as they travelled the east coast. Following the automation of the lighthouse in 1975\, the optic was bought ashore\, and it was installed at the Jetty Foreshores in March 2024 for all to enjoy.      The SSILO will be switched on from 6:30 – 6:45pm for the community to enjoy.   \n\n\n\nLocation: South Solitary Island Lighthouse Optic\, Jetty Foreshores Coffs Harbour

SUMMARY:Desert Jungle
DESCRIPTION:Desert Jungle \n \n \n\nExhibition \n \n Experience the raw and unapologetic energy of lowbrow artist Aidan Jarvis. His work is sure to make you smile as the mundane and every day is transformed into something absurd and wonderful. \n \n\n\n\n\nJeannie Baker\, Desert Jungle #10 (2023) Courtesy the artist. Photo: Jaime Plaza.\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Exhibition \n \n The Lowbrow Art of Aidan Jarvis \n When\n \n 25 May – 21 Jul 2024 \n \n AdmissionFree entry Plan your visit	\n \n \n\nJeannie’s vibrant and visually distinct works present a visual narrative that explores the complex biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. Over one-third of the Australian landscape is classified as desert\, and it’s often thought of as barren space. In this new story\, Jeannie explores the Valley of the Cirios in Mexico\, through the perspective of a young child and his grandfather. \n\n\n\nIn parts of the Valley\, towering stands of Cardon Cactus – some of the largest cacti on Earth – and Elephant Trees\, mix with Cirios and other unique desert plants as a ‘forest’\, almost a desert jungle. These cacti and other plants form both subject and material for Jeannie\, who incorporates clippings from plants in her intricate and stunning works.During an historic moment\, when the global community is grappling with climate change\, Desert Jungle offers a moment of reflection and insight\, to celebrate that which is unique\, and cannot be lost. \n\n\n\nAn exhibition by Penrith Regional Gallery\, Home of The Lewers Bequest coproduced with Jeannie Baker.

As AI trawls through the history of human cultural endeavour – mapping and mimicking human artistry – what does it create but outcomes that currently appear hollow? By contrast\, human-made creativity resonates on a different level and as humans\, we can feel the authentic hand of the artist irrespective of how strange the intention is.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBook a ticket for the Artist Talk with Nimrod Weiss

These paintings are a love letter to the LGBTQI+ community\, showcasing the unbridled joy of being able to dance and express yourself\, freely and openly\, in a safe environment.
