These workshops focus on fun\, creativity\, and self-expression.   \n\n\n\nNikky Morgan-Smith is a painter and teacher. She was a finalist in STILL: National Still Life Award in 2021. \n\n\n\nThere are three workshops on offer\, with suggested age group guides:  \n\n\n\n5-10 years: Tuesday 9 July 1:30–3pm  \n\n\n\n8-12 years: Wednesday 10 July 1:30–3pm  \n\n\n\n13 years+: Thursday 11 July 1:30– 3pm

Learn how to get the best recorded sound from your instruments and how to layer them using music software.  \n\n\n\nIn this interactive workshop you will learn:  \n\n\n\n\nHow to record using audio interfaces and microphones available for loan at the library. \n\n\n\nHow to use music software to capture and enhance your recorded tracks. \n\n\n\nHow to record\, compose and layer tracks using different types of instruments. \n\n\n\nHow to add instruments to samples and beats effectively. \n\n\n\n\nSong Recording Workshop 2 – Introduction to Recording Vocals  \n\n\n\nSaturday\, 13 July\, 10am-2pm  \n\n\n\nLearn the tricks of getting great vocal tracks with microphones and recording software in different environments. This workshop will show you how to create\, capture and layer vocal tracks over your recorded music.  \n\n\n\nIn this interactive workshop you will learn:  \n\n\n\n\nHow to choose the right microphone for your vocal performance. \n\n\n\nHow to place microphones for optimal recording of vocals. \n\n\n\nHow to layer and arrange vocal tracks. \n\n\n\nHow to perform vocals in different settings to capture the best performance. \n\n\n\nHow to use digital software to enhance vocal tracks. \n\n\n\nHow to create vocal performances that compleiment your recorded music. \n\n\n\n\nDates: Your registration covers two sessions which will be held from 10am – 2pm on Saturday 6 July and 13 July  \n\n\n\nCost: $90 for both sessions  \n\n\n\nAge: 16+  \n\n\n\nEquipment: All materials and equipment will be provided.  \n\n\n\nAbout the Facilitator \n\n\n\nAhva Dub\, UMBL music \n\n\n\nExperienced album producer and engineer in the studio and in the live field. Ahva is keen to work with producers and engineers from all levels and backgrounds. Has worked with many Indigenous artists including Yirrnga (now King Stingray) and Larry Gurruwiwi from NE Arnhem Land. Currently working with Garrangali band and Jumbaal Dreamin’ \, Ahva has a passion for world music as well and a good understanding of harmony and melody (one meaning for Ahva is ‘good melody’). \n\n\n\nHe will share his focus on natural flow and the core principles of crafting sound. On top of recording and production the different topics will include when and how to mix your track and how to harness your software and DAW FX\, such as in Ableton Live.

All materials and duuwa (boomerang) will be included in the cost of this workshop. \n\n\n\n Please note this workshop does not include a duuwa (boomerang) throwing demonstration.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for adults and is also family friendly but recommended for children 8 and up. Coffs Harbour Libraries is excited to present this 2-day Introduction to Ableton Live (Sat 6th and Sat 13th April 10am-2pm). No previous experience necessary. \n\n\n\nIn this face-to-face course\, facilitator Myles Boyd will introduce participants to the basic techniques required to use Ableton Live with a MIDI controller. \n\n\n\nThe course is held over two Saturdays at The Digital Studio\, level 1\, Yarrila Place\, Saturday 6 April and Saturday 13 April.  \n\n\n\nThis course will show you how to create a full song and learn all of the parts of Ableton Live when producing music\, even without any prior knowledge. \n\n\n\nCreated for the absolute beginner as well as advanced users who want to expand their knowledge within Ableton Live software. \n\n\n\nWhat you’ll learn: \n\n\n\n\nHow to create a full track from scratch in Ableton\n\n\n\nCreate different pre-sets and favourites in the browser section for a quick workflow\n\n\n\nShow how the different controls works and why you should use them\n\n\n\nUsing Ableton live as a music production software\n\n\n\n\nAbout the facilitator \n\n\n\nMyles Boyd is a composer\, producer\, and multi-instrumentalist. Starting music from a young age Myles demonstrated a natural affinity with the classical guitar and performed concerts and eisteddfods as early as 6 years of age. After receiving his AMEB grade 8 he was accepted into a leading conservatorium\, however\, left after a year to pursue other areas of music. His practice at this point shifted to include production and composition\, however\, he also retained a passion for string instruments. In the transference into production and composition he received Ableton Live certification through Dubspot\, New York\, before returning to university which he graduated with a Bachelor of music in 2023. In this time Myles passionately explored many facets of music\, however\, majored in composition and production. Topics of interests have included\, theory and analysis\, aural training\, electronic music production and technology\, film scoring\, harmony and composition\, interactive composition\, and musicology.
