Lighthouses hold a special place in maritime history\, warning mariners of dangers and helping guide vessels safely in and out of harbours.   Originally installed in 1880\, South Solitary Island Lighthouse Optic (SSILO) guided ships safely through the night as they travelled the east coast. Following the automation of the lighthouse in 1975\, the optic was bought ashore\, and it was installed at the Jetty Foreshores in March 2024 for all to enjoy.      The SSILO will be switched on from 6.00 – 6.30pm for the community to enjoy.
