SUMMARY:Yaamanga (around here)
DESCRIPTION:Young Archie Coffs Harbour \n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026Exhibition \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nYaamanga (around here) installation view\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Exhibition \n \n Young Archie Coffs Harbour \n When\n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026 \n \n Archibald Prize 2025Plan your visit	\n \n \n\nYaamanga (around here) is an ongoing exhibition exploring the history and identity of the Coffs Coast through themes of place\, community and belonging\, with Gumbaynggirr culture at its heart. This interactive exhibition features hundreds of objects\, photographs\, artworks and films from the Yarrila Arts and Museum collection. A key highlight of Yaamanga (around here) is the short film\, Daalga Nginundi Wajaarr (Sing Your Country)\, which is informed by Yuludarla’s (Gumbaynggirr Creator) journey from north to south exploring miirlarl (sacred places)\, culture and history through song and cinema. The piece is a celebration of language and its revival and is an invitation for all people to learn the story of this place. It explores untold histories of Country; its triumphs and its sorrow and the dialogue Gumbaynggirr people have every day with her.Daalga Nginundi Wajaarr (Sing Your Country) was created by Alison Page and Nik Lachajczak of ZAKPAGE. The score is a reworking of a medley of traditional songs by Gumbaynggirr artist\, Birrugan Dunn-Velasco\, with the inclusion of post-modern instrumentation and sounds from Country. This artwork is dedicated to the Gumbaynggirr people; it is their ancestral lands upon which we live and work; they who are so generous with their cultural knowledge and lore in the making of this film. \n\n\n\nA still image captured from Daalga Nginundi Wajaarr Sing Your Country\n\n\n\n\n\nFind out more about Daalga Nginundi Wajarr Sing your Country

SUMMARY:Electric Dreams
DESCRIPTION:Young Archie Coffs Harbour \n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026Exhibition \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nJason Sims\, Structural Nature IV (detail)\, 2023\, photo by Pippy Mount\, image courtesy of the artist and MARS Gallery\, Melbourne. \n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Exhibition \n \n Young Archie Coffs Harbour \n When\n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026 \n \n Archibald Prize 2025Plan your visit	\n \n \n\nViewers are invited to stretch their imaginations and visual perceptions of space and form as they move throughout this immersive exhibition and engage with the works.   Taree Mackenzie employs a Victorian-era effect used in theatre to create the illusion of moving abstract forms through the merging of coloured light and reflection.Jason Sims plays with shape\, light and mirrors to create light structures in which geometric forms appear to continue infinitely. \n\n\n\nBrendan Van Hek works with neon lights to create conceptual and mesmerising installations that produce optical illusions for the viewer as their eyes are dazzled by the intensity of the glow and visual hum of the colours.

SUMMARY:Desert Jungle
DESCRIPTION:Desert Jungle \n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026Exhibition \n \n \n \n\n\n\n\nJeannie Baker\, Desert Jungle #10 (2023) Courtesy the artist. Photo: Jaime Plaza.\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n Exhibition \n \n Young Archie Coffs Harbour \n When\n \n 7 August – 13 September 2026 \n \n Archibald Prize 2025Plan your visit	\n \n \n\nJeannie’s vibrant and visually distinct works present a visual narrative that explores the complex biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. Over one-third of the Australian landscape is classified as desert\, and it’s often thought of as barren space. In this new story\, Jeannie explores the Valley of the Cirios in Mexico\, through the perspective of a young child and his grandfather. \n\n\n\nIn parts of the Valley\, towering stands of Cardon Cactus – some of the largest cacti on Earth – and Elephant Trees\, mix with Cirios and other unique desert plants as a ‘forest’\, almost a desert jungle. These cacti and other plants form both subject and material for Jeannie\, who incorporates clippings from plants in her intricate and stunning works.During an historic moment\, when the global community is grappling with climate change\, Desert Jungle offers a moment of reflection and insight\, to celebrate that which is unique\, and cannot be lost. \n\n\n\nAn exhibition by Penrith Regional Gallery\, Home of The Lewers Bequest coproduced with Jeannie Baker.
